The issue I hear the most about from constituents is speeding and reckless driving in neighborhoods and we know speed monitoring systems work to reduce dangerous driving. HB 58 came to me from community groups and will make our streets safer for everyone.

You can read the Baltimore Sun’s commentary here.

I have been fighting misinformation about HB 58, which simply allows the county, rather than the state, to make decisions about where, when, or whether to authorize speed monitoring devices. Unfortunately, some of my colleagues are not sticking to the facts regarding HB 58. I have had to correct many misrepresentations of this local control, public safety legislation in a lot of media. I recently appeared on Maryland Public Television's State Circle and debated one of the Delegates opposing this bill.

You can watch the Face-Off Here.

Speeding and reckless driving is one of the most common concerns I hear from constituents. HB 58 is a bill that transfers control over the placement of speed cameras from the state to the county and gives the police another tool in their tool box to address the issue.

Thank you, WYPR for covering this important story. We have been waiting since June 17 for the Superintendent to act. I also want to reiterate that this is not about just one school or one district. I, and others, have seen these symbols in other schools. This is a systemic issue that needs to be dealt with and not just on a "case by case" basis after a child is brave enough to complain!
